BEIJING – U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla is looking to expand its energy business into China and is looking to hire solar and energy storage project managers in the country.
The official WeChat account for Tesla human resources department published two posts hiring for such roles in China.
This is the first time that the California-based automaker’s HR department has put out an advertisement of the sort.
Tesla’s billionaire CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter last month to announce that they were to “soon” release China and Europe’s solar projects’ timings. No further details on the matter were given.
For one post, Tesla is seeking out project managers to design and execute solar projects for both residential and commercial customers.
The second post, Tesla is looking for managers to develop photovoltaic energy storage projects.
The advertised roles are based in Tesla’s $2 billion Shanghai factory which, at the end of last year, began delivering China-made Model 3 electric sedans.
In 2016, Tesla branched out into the solar business purchasing SolarCity for $2.6 billion. The electric vehicle maker is keen to develop its energy business.
Tesla’s solar services encompass Solar Roof (seemingly normal roof tiles which are actually a power-generating system) and Powerwall (to save solar panel generated power).
In January, China’s energy administration announced that, in 2020, 1.5 billion yuan would be allocated to fund new solar power projects.
