Saturday 2nd July saw the 21st annual Asia Cup Polo International Day hosted at the private Winkfield
Park Polo Club. Guests arrived at a champagne reception sponsored by Jacquart along with sumptuous canapes prepared by our weekend hospitality partners, Chakra (www.chakra.events). Rebecca Lodge-Birkabaek sang Grace before starters were served once guests had taken their seats.
Our long-standing MC for the day, Roger Dakin, then got things underway with a great game of Heads & Tails where the prize of a bottle of Champagne was again kindly donated by Jacquart. We also had an amazing luxury hamper donated by Renee Benatar (www.hampersbazaar.com) for the business card draw. Chakra provided a delicious three-course meal at the end of which guests were entertained by Rebecca returning to sing three great operatic songs. There then followed a simply stunning fashion show presented by Nina Naustdal (www.ninanaustdal.co.uk) at the end of which one of the dresses was the first of the auction prizes.
Monies were raised through the auction for the Red Ribbon Foundation, who are supporting orphans in India. Amazing items had been generously provided including a 3 day stay at the luxurious Kimpton Seafire Hotel and Spa in Grand Cayman donated by the Sue Nickason and the Dart Family
office (www.dart.ky)
Once lunch has finished, guests came out to watch two great games of polo.
In the first match we had the Sen group team facing off against the ICICI bank team. The Sen Group’s
included Winkfield Park’s own Josh Clover and a number of players playing in the Asia Cup for the first
time. The ICICI Bank team included siblings Christabel and Edward Horswell. The Sen Group team
proved too strong on the day running out 7-5 winners with Verity Roberts as a deserved Player of the
Match.
In the International Match, Red Ribbon (www.redribon.co) (our weekend Title sponsors) had Indian
internationals Arjun Badal Singh and Asia Cup veteran Abhimanyu Pathak along with Edward MorrisLowe and were favourites to win. However, the Crystal Assets team (www.crystalassets.co.uk) had other plans, and with Johnny Good and especially Georgina Brittain putting in a player of the day performance they came out on top for the 2nd year in a row winning a very close match 4-3.
Once the prize ceremony had taken place, the Gypsy Kings-style band got the after-party started
before resident DJ Ivan really got people dancing. However, the best part was still to come with Soul
Diva Kym Mazelle rocking the Asia Cup! Many thanks as always to Suchit, Arvid and their team at Red Ribbon for their continued support as our title sponsors and to Ranjan at Crystal Assets.
We would also like to thank Loknath at ICICI Bank (www.icicibank.co.uk) for their sponsorship and
gifts for guests. Thanks also go to Iain at 2-TierTravel for the player of the match sponsorship
