TEL AVIV (ISRAEL) – Movie lovers embarked on boats floating on a Tel Aviv lake on Thursday for the test screening at the country’s first “sail-in” cinema.
As movie halls in the city are closed because of the pandemic, municipal authorities came up with the idea to have a floating cinema allowing viewers to maintain safe distance and enjoy the show.
There are 70 rowing and pedal boats in Yarkon Park lake and they are two metres from one another to maintain social distancing, said municipal authorities.
Two movies will be screened every evening during the last week of August. The screening on Thursday was attended by 200 people and the flick shown was family comedy “Paddington 2”.
“It was an amazing evening. Great to see a cinema corona-style. We had an amazing time. The whole family enjoyed it. Good move Tel Aviv,” said Galia Resnick, 42, a city resident.
