LONDON (UK) – British workers in counts of thousands will need to help to gather the harvest. This comes as seasonal workers from European countries are unable to travel because of the coronavirus lockdown, according to the environment minister.
Environment Secretary George Eustice revealed that in a normal year 30,000 people come from the European Union for seasonal agricultural work, though only a third remained now.
“We will need a significant number of British people, in particular those who have been furloughed they have the chance if they want. We are getting huge interest from people wanting to do this. We need tens of thousands of people to do this work.”
– George Eustice, British Environment Secretary
This peak comes at the end of May and during June.
