LOS ANGELES (US) – Hollywood is all prepared for the remake of the classic flick “The Wizard of Oz”, one of the most iconic movies of all time.
New Line Cinema, which is a unit of AT&T Inc’s Warner Bros studio, announced on Tuesday it was looking at a fresh take on ‘Wizard of Oz’ published in 1900.
The studio said Nicole Kassell, an executive director and producer of HBO’s Emmy-winning “Watchmen” series, will direct the flick.
“The opportunity to examine the original themes – the quest for courage, love, wisdom and home – feels more timely and urgent than ever,” said Kassell. “These are profoundly iconic shoes to fill, and I am eager to dance alongside these heroes of my childhood as we pave a newly minted yellow brick road!”
It appears that the new movie will not be a musical. In the original 1939 movie, the song “Over the Rainbow” got the Oscar for the best original song. Ever since the release of the movie, there have been several remakes as well as spinoffs and they include the long-running Broadway hit “Wicked” and 2013 Disney film “Oz the Great and Powerful”.
