WASHINGTON (US) – President Donald Trump is expected to begin in-person campaigning on Saturday after being confined indoors because of coronavirus infection. A debate next week with Democratic candidate Joe Biden was cancelled because the president refused to take part in it.
The president will speak to a crowd of supporters from a balcony of the White House on “law and order”, said an official. A source said hundreds are expected to take part and they would be wearing face masks.
On Monday, the Republican leader will visit central Florida, a state crucial to his hopes of coming to power a second time.
Trump will stage his first campaign since he was diagnosed with the virus at an airport in the town of Sanford. It is not clear if it will be held in a hangar with doors open or completely outside.
The body that oversees presidential debates said the session between Trump and Biden on October 15 had been formally cancelled.
The president refused to take part in what was supposed to be the second of three debates after the Commission on Presidential Debates made it a virtual event after Trump fell ill.
The final debate is slated for Oct. 22.
