A US Air Force man is in critical condition after setting himself on fire in front of the Israel embassy in Washington. On Sunday afternoon, the US Secret Service officers swiftly extinguished the flames before they rushed the individual to the hospital with severe injuries.
In a livestreamed video on Twitch, the US Air Force man , self-identified as a serving Air Force member, expressed his refusal to remain complicit in what he termed as “genocide.” Prior to igniting himself, he shouted “Free Palestine” as a declaration of his motivations.
Following the incident, a bomb disposal unit was dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle thought to be associated with the individual. Fortunately, authorities found no hazardous materials, and they deemed the area safe.
Authorities, including the police and Secret Service, are currently conducting investigations into the matter. They stated that they did not know the man.
This event echoes a similar incident from December when a protester in the state of Georgia set themselves on fire in front of the Israeli consulate. Police reported that the protester used petrol, and they discovered a Palestinian flag at the scene on that occasion.. These distressing events highlight the intense emotions and tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Washington police department is investigating the incident alongside the Secret Service and other relevant authorities
