WASHINGTON (US) – President Donald Trump said on Friday that he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for novel coronavirus and would go into quarantine immediately and begin the “recovery process.”
“We will get through this,” the president said on Twitter.
This comes as a top adviser and confidant Hope Hicks had tested positive for the virus.
Hicks travels frequently with the president on board Air Force One and had accompanied him to Ohio along with other aides for the debate on Tuesday and to Minnesota for a campaign event the following day.
The president, who is regularly tested, has kept up a rigorous travel schedule in recent weeks, conducting rallies attended by thousands of people ahead of the polls, despite warnings from public health professionals.
He has come faced flak for his response to the pandemic that has killed more than 200,000 people in the country.
