In an insightful interview with Elvis Dennis Lobo, Sujit S Nair, the esteemed Chairperson of the Europe India Centre for Business and Industry (EICBI), shared his extensive experience and insights into fostering India-EU and India-UK relations. Over the past 12 years, Mr Nair has orchestrated 29 key engagements in European Parliaments, primarily focusing on strengthening India-EU and India-UK relations. These engagements have included 25 significant events at the British Parliament in London and four at the European Parliament in Brussels. His efforts have facilitated crucial dialogues between Members of the European Parliament, Members of the British Parliament, Indian lawmakers, and businesses, playing a pivotal role in fostering political discourse.
One of Mr Nair’s notable achievements is the conceptualization of the annual Europe India 40 Leaders List, which recognizes youthful leadership in the UK-India and EU-India domains. The list, launched in 2019, is announced annually in a virtual ceremony attended by MPs from India, the UK, and the EU. The certificates are then awarded to the EuropeIndia40 leaders at the European Parliament in Brussels, highlighting Mr Nair’s commitment to promoting young leaders.
Mr Nair’s global recognition includes an invitation to the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit co-hosted by then US President Barack Obama and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. This platform further showcased his dedication to international collaboration and diplomacy.
Reflecting on his journey, Mr Nair emphasised the importance of providing European stakeholders with a balanced view of India. His initial focus on showcasing South India’s unique qualities has expanded to encompass all regions, contributing significantly to India’s international image.
Additionally, Mr Nair discussed his involvement with the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce (RSA), and the Sandbox Network, highlighting how these affiliations have aided his diplomatic efforts. His felicitation at the UK Parliament in 2014, particularly by Lord Swraj Paul, was a notable milestone in his career.
