Kyiv City Administration has reported that Russian forces launched a barrage of self-exploding Iranian-made Shahed drones early Thursday morning, targeting the Ukrainian capital. Explosions were heard in various parts of the city. Causing damage to buildings and resulting in injuries. The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that debris from intercepted drones fell on four districts of Kyiv. While an earlier report by the municipal authority on Telegram stated that debris fell in five districts.

A total of 20 self-exploding drones were launched by Russia, with the majority targeting the Kyiv region. However, all 20 drones were successfully shot down by Ukrainian military forces. Additionally, two cruise missiles were intercepted, preventing further damage. The Ukrainian military statement acknowledged that one ballistic missile was not intercepted. Although no details were provided regarding the extent of the damage caused.

The government of the Khmelnytskyi region in western Ukraine reported that a cruise missile was aimed at their area. However, that was successfully intercepted, and fortunately, no casualties were reported. The regional administration expressed appreciation for the diligent efforts of Ukraine’s air defence forces, as stated on Telegram.

Internation attention calls for diplomatic resolutions

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that a fire broke out in a 16-story residential building and a non-residential building. But it was promptly extinguished by rescuers. Additionally, debris from the attack caused damage to the facade of a 25-story apartment building, according to the ministry.

Volodymyr Motus, a 22-year-old resident of the affected 25-story building. Cautiously navigated through the ruins of a destroyed apartment, surrounded by shattered glass and dust-coated furniture. He recounted the sudden boom followed by the sounding of alarms, prompting him to seek shelter. Motus mentioned that some individuals sustained injuries but assured that they were all alive.

The targeted attack on Kyiv has escalated tensions in the region and raised concerns about further military actions by Russia. The Ukrainian government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. International attention has turned to the escalating conflict and calls for restraint and diplomatic resolutions have intensified in an effort to prevent further violence and protect civilian lives.
