DUBAI āĀ The intricate skill of batik was showcased in all its glory at a Sri Lankan fashion show at Expo 2020 Dubai this evening (21 February).
A sea of shimmering colour filled Jubilee Stage, as models wowed the audience with a mix of traditional and modern fashion, from flowing saris to frilly trouser suits.
The batik method entails wax being poured onto textiles in patterns, before the material is dyed, with the waxed area untouched and leaving eye-catching patterns such as flowers and swirls.
Behind the models, a screen filled with photos of Sri Lankaās lush green rainforests, stunning coastline and exotic animals.
The range was designed by Darshi Keerthisena, whose high-end couture designs have been showcased around the world. Designer Kamil Hewavitharana, who recently showed his latest line at Dubai Fashion Week, also contributed to the chic show.
