LONDON (UK) – According to an estimate of the Office for National Statistics on Friday, the number of new infections was rising by around 35,200 per day in England last week, which is up from the 27,900 the week before. However, there are tentative signs of a levelling-off around this rate.
According to ONS, around 433,300 people in England had the infection last week compared with 336,500 the previous week, which is 1 in 130 people. It is based on a modelled estimate derived from samples of the population.
As per some of the estimates published by ONS, the spread of the pandemic may no longer be accelerating.
A day-to-day breakdown of daily new infections, conducted by the University of Oxford, revealed that they had stabilised at around 35,000 per day by last Friday.
