LONDON (UK) – Staff of BBC should not air their political views on social media platforms because they risked tarnishing the broadcaster’s reputation for being impartial, said the corporation’s new director general.
Tim Davie, 53, assumed charge as the 17th director general of BBC on Tuesday.
“If you want to be an opinionated columnist or a partisan campaigner on social media then that is a valid choice, but you should not be working at the BBC,” he said on Thursday in his debut address to staff.
He replaced Tony Hall and has to secure the future of the 98-year-old corporation at a time when its funding model which depends on payments from individual households, is under attack from some lawmakers.
