PERTH (AUSTRALIA) – As Australian Rules football resumes in the country’s west after the easing of curbs, Perth will witness 30,000 fans congregating at the Perth Stadium on Sunday.
The West Australia government has announced that the stadium can open to half capacity while tickets for the match between the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles have been booked by fans who have been deprived for action.
“It’s an incredible thing to have (football) back and I’m sure everyone’s missed it dearly,” said former Fremantle coach Gerard Neesham.
“It (fills) a big void in people’s normal lives. They look forward to the football season, it occupies a lot of positive time for them.”
West Australia, which will also be a quarantine hub for visiting teams, is slated to reopen its economy in stages.
Australian Football League have been deprived of support from crowds of fans because of social distancing norms in place. Like in most other nations, soccer matches were played behind closed doors or with very few spectators.
