WASHINGTON (US) – Electric carmaker giant Tesla Inc is constructing “RNA microfactories” in Germany for COVID-19 shot developer CureVac, said the firm’s CEO Elon Musk in a Twitter message on Wednesday.
According to CureVac, it is coming out with automated mRNA manufacturing units which can be transported to remote locations to create vaccine candidates and other mRNA-based therapies.
In case the vaccine candidate gets market approval, CureVac has production sites with regulatory approval in Germany. And they have a capacity to bring out millions of doses.
The firm is also constructing a permanent facility to increase its production tenfold.
Musk did not provide details about his plans. Tesla and CureVac were not available to comment.
