LONDON (Finance) – Britain should request for an extension to its post-Brexit transition period in order to ease the uncertainty surrounding a time when the world economy is boughed by the coronavirus pandemic, according to Kristalina Georgieva, the head of the International Monetary Fund.
“It is tough as it is. Let’s not make it any tougher. My advice would be to seek ways in which this element of uncertainty is reduced in the interests of everybody, of the UK, of the EU, the whole world.”
– Kristalina Georgieva, head of the International Monetary Fund
The Brexit transition period ends on December 31 and export-import barriers go up if a new trade agreement is not reached by then. This has been more of a challenge after the strain of the coronavirus outbreak.
