ANKARA – On Wednesday, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan stated that he respects the court’s decision to acquit Osman Kavala and eight others for their involvement in the Gezi Park protests, however, the 2013 unrest proved to be a “heinous attack” on Turkey.
“The Gezi events were a heinous attack targeting the people and state, just like military coups. We respect the judicial decision, but the sentencing of those who took part in Gezi for our people will never change.”
– Tayyip Erdogan
