JERUSALEM – On Thursday, British Prince Charles paid homage to his grandmother Princess Alice for offering shelter to Jews in Greece when it was Nazi-occupied. He added that the royal family took pride in the honour of Princess Alice’s heroism in the Holocaust, bestowed by Israel.
Prince Charles addressed the Holocaust memorial ceremony in Jerusalem and the forum was attended by over 40 world leaders.
He said that he draws inspiration from Princess Alice’s selfless actions who saved a Jewish family in Nazi-occupied Greece by taking them into her house and hiding them.
Princess Alice is buried on the Mount of Olives and a tree of her name was planted at Yad Vashem, counted as one of the Righteous Among the Nations, which is a great source of pride to the Prince and his family.
In 1993, the highest honour for non-Jews, Yad Vashem was bestowed upon the princess for hiding 3 members of the Cohen family in her Athens palace during World War II.
