SEOUL (SOUTH KOREA) – South Korea on Sunday recorded the comparatively lowest rise in coronavirus infections in three weeks. It stayed under 200 for a fourth consecutive day.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention marked 167 new coronavirus cases for the 24 hours, down from 168 the previous day.
That has taken the country’s total infections to 21,177 with 334 COVID-19 deaths.
The government on Friday further prolonged the curbs until September 13, saying it would take some more time to witness sharper drops in new infections.
South Korea’s efforts have been hampered by the strike of 16,000 interns and resident doctors who protested against the government’s plans to bring changes to the medical sector.
The country’s top medical body agreed on Friday with the government to put an end to the walkout, which was immediately resisted by the trainee doctors.
