LONDON (UK) – British boxing authorities have found WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders guilty of misconduct and imposed a fine for a social media post, advising men how to hit their female partners during the lockdown.
According to the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC), he was slapped with a fine of 15,000 pounds.
However, it said that the suspension of his licence, which came into effect in March, has been lifted.
The boxing champion filmed himself punching a bag in a barn and advising “dads, husbands and men with girlfriends” how to tackle their female partners during the lockdown.
“Following consideration of Mr. Saunders’ explanation, the Stewards found Mr. Saunders guilty of misconduct and have fined him 15,000 pounds to be donated to charities,” the BBBofC said in a statement.
He has tendered an apology for the video and vowed to donate 25,000 pounds to domestic abuse charities.
In 2018, he was fined 10,000 pounds by the BBBofC for another social media video in which he offered drugs to a woman to have sex with another person. He is unbeaten in 29 bouts and held a world title in the middleweight division.
