MOSCOW (RUSSIA) – Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was hospitalised in Siberia on Thursday when symptoms of poisoning were found, after his aircraft made an emergency landing, according to his spokeswoman.
Kira Yarmysh, the spokeswoman said Navalny, aged 44, is unconscious and in intensive care. He was feeling unwell while returning to Moscow, from the Siberian city of Tomsk.
She divulged about the same on social media, such as Twitter and Telegram, and further added that the plane had to be landed in Omsk. “We assume that Alexei was poisoned with something mixed with his tea,” she said. “That’s the only thing he drank this morning.”
Navalny, a lawyer and anti-corruption activist, was behind the bars several times in recent years for organising anti-Kremlin protests.
