Here’s a quick summary of what has happened around the world over the last 24 hours, brought to you exclusively by British Herald.
Heavy rains and floods lashed through homes of residents in South Wales and the Welsh borders as a result of Storm Dennis. The Environment Agency issued several flood warnings and hence, a few were prepared for the second day of disruption.
Several major incidents were reported by emergency services like the police and firefighters in parts of South Wales and England and they worked hard to rescue those trapped due to the flood. Stay safe!
British property asking prices for properties put on sale rise again after PM Boris Johnson’s December election victory. Average asking prices of property from January 12th to February 8th rose by a 0.8%, slower than the previous 2.3% monthly jump but enough to drive prices to an all-time high.
British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that the government has not talked to China for help in the construction of the High Speed 2 major rail project, which was given the green signal last week despite being over budget by billions of pounds. China had offered to build the High Speed 2 rail line within a period of five years for lesser money.
Syrian government forces made significant advances in the country’s northwestern Aleppo province, seizing most of the rebel-held region, state media said, a day before a new round of talks between Turkey and Russia on the escalation in the area.
The Syrian government’s recent advances in the northwestern region have upset fragile cooperation between Ankara and Moscow, which back opposing factions in the conflict but have collaborated towards a political solution to the nearly nine-year war.
Turkey, which backs rebels looking to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has been outraged since Syrian attacks in the Idlib region killed 13 Turkish troops in two weeks. It has urged Russia to stop the attacks, warning it would use military power to drive back the Syrian forces unless they withdraw by the end of the month.
