LIMA – On Thursday, a truck with natural gas in Peru’s capital city of Lima exploded and killed at least two and injured 48 others in a tragic accident.
Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra labelled the incident as a “tragedy”.
The truck hurtled off a ramp on the street, the truck then burst into flames on breaking a valve, leaking gas and setting fire to many homes in the vicinity. 11 children were admitted to local hospitals with severe burns.
Peru’s Health Minister Elizabeth Hinostroza reported that more than half of the total victims were in “very critical” condition with burns that covered over 80% of their bodies.
Peru depends on trucks heavily for fuel distribution with a restriction on shipping gas to industries and homes through pipelines.
