LONDON (UK) – In Thursday’s 3-1 Europa League win at Ludogorets in Bulgaria, striker Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur scored his 200th goal for the club. But he said that he was not focused on records at the moment.
He is the third Spurs player to achieve the milestone and the 27-year-old is trailing Bobby Smith by eight goals and could threaten Jimmy Greaves’s record of 266.
“These are great things but hard to take in while you’re playing,” Kane said. “Once you finish your career you take it all in.”
His first goal for Spurs was in Europe’s second-tier club competition. It was a neat finish late in the match against Shamrock Rovers in 2011.
“Time goes so quickly and it feels like yesterday that I scored that first goal,” he added. “It’s a great achievement to reach 200 and hopefully there’s a few more left. Let’s keep them coming.”
Jose Mourinho, the manager of Spurs, said Kane could go on and replace Greaves as their record scorer.
“What he’s achieving in the Premier League and all competitions is great for such a young guy,” Mourinho added. “Can he become the record scorer? I believe he can. It’s just a matter of time.”
