BERLIN (GERMANY) – Dismissing criticism of hypocrisy earlier this week for not wearing a face mask, German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday made her first public appearance wearing one.
She arrived at Bundesrat, the upper house of parliament, sporting a black mask marked with EU2020.de, which is a website dedicated to the nation’s six-month presidency of the EU which began on July 1.
The chancellor, whose administration has made wearing of masks mandatory in public places, was questioned by a journalist during a briefing on Monday as to why she never wore one in public.
Merkel said she did not need to wear one as she observed social distancing norms.
