WELLINGTON (NEW ZEALAND) – Three new locally transmitted infections were reported in New Zealand on Tuesday. This comes as the cluster in Auckland expanded days after fresh restrictions were imposed.
Last week, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern lifted a brief lockdown in Auckland, saying the measures had helped limit the spread of the infection to a family of three.
But earlier in the day, a student from Papatoetoe High School in Auckland tested positive for the virus and health authorities said two siblings of the students were also infected. All those who are linked to the school have been asked to get re-tested.
Officials urged people who have visited certain locations to go into self-isolation and seek the advice of health officers regarding testing.
Earlier this month, the 2 million residents of the city had to undergo a three-day lockdown after a family of two adults and a child tested positive.
