LONDON- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson requested manufacturers in the country to boost ventilator production and has ordered private hospitals to prepare for more patient inflow from the public health service due to the coronavirus case surge.
On Monday, Johnson was to speak to manufacturers and the government requested engineers to produce more ventilators for the government to purchase.
On Friday, Germany and Italy have rushed to buy more ventilators and manufacturers sent out a warning that hospitals everywhere did not have enough vital equipment which is needed to treat patients diagnosed with the coronavirus.
The British government is also in talks with private hospitals to buy a few thousand beds to be used if the virus spreads rapidly in the country.
“The public are right to be proud of the NHS, but the scale of the challenge we face means we can’t do this alone.”
– Simon Stevens, National Health Service head
On Monday, hospitals shall be given instructions to help them prepare.
