BEIJING (CHINA) – Lin Dan, one of the greatest singles players and China’s two-time Olympic badminton champion, on Saturday announced his retirement.
The winner of the Olympic singles titles in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, the 37-year-old player has clinched major titles, which include gold at five world championships.
“I’ve dedicated everything to the sport I love. My family, coaches, team mates and fans have accompanied me through many happy times and difficult moments,” Dan said.
“Now I’m 37 years old, and my physical fitness and pain no longer allow me to fight side by side with my team mates,” he added.
