LONDON (UK) – Britain’s anti-racism protests have been “subverted by thuggery”, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.
The Prime Minister also warned that those responsible would be held to account.
On Sunday, several thousands of people took to the streets of London, rallying for a second-day against police brutality after George Floyd’s killing in Minneapolis.
14 police officers were injured on Saturday when protesters clashed with mounted police near Johnson’s Downing Street residence. Two of them were also seriously injured.
“People have a right to protest peacefully and while observing social distancing but they have no right to attack the police. These demonstrations have been subverted by thuggery – and they are a betrayal of the cause they purport to serve. Those responsible will be held to account.”
– Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister
