DUBAI – Kim Clijsters showed why she is a four-time Grand Slam champion when she defeated 2018 Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki in the Women’s Singles Exhibition Game at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Tennis Week on Saturday evening.
With strong performances from both stars, Clijsters took the first set 6-4. Wozniacki came back, taking the second set 6-2, but it was Clijsters who claimed victory with a super tiebreaker of 10-7.
Between sets, the players clapped along to the music with the audience, showing their sense of fun and camaraderie with each other.
Ahmed Al Katib, Chief Development and Delivery Officer, Expo 2020 Dubai was among the delegation who presented bouquets of flowers to the champions, as they expressed their happiness at participating in the friendly match.
The Men’s Doubles Exhibition Game followed at 2100 GST, featuring icons John McEnroe, Greg Rusedski, Richard Krajicek, and Mark Philippoussis. Mansour Bahrami and Fabrice Santoro will be competing in the Men’s Singles Exhibition Game on Sunday (20 February) at 1800 GST.
Entry to the matches is open to Expo 2020 Dubai visitors and will be staged at the Expo Sports Arena, a multi-purpose venue that hosts an exciting array of sports events and fitness sessions, located next to Festival Garden, just behind Jubilee Park.
