DUBAI A look ahead to the major events of Saturday 16 October at Expo 2020 Dubai

Commonwealth of Dominica National Day

  • Media are invited to attend the flag ceremony at 1615 at Al Wasl Plaza
  • The delegation will include the following officials:
    • The Hon Dr Kenneth Darroux, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations
  • Cultural presentation begins at 1605 at Stage of Nations, Al Wasl Plaza
  • Dominica Media Conference begins at 2020, EMC, Conference room A, Level 2

World Food Day at Expo 2020

  • Expo 2020 is the official location for the UAE’s World Food Day celebrations
  • There will be people-facing flagship, specialist closed-door discussion and youth events at Expo
  • Public-facing official ceremony from 1430-1515, Opportunity Forum, with the following officials:
    • HE Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment
    • António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations (video)
    • Qu Dongyu, Director-General, Food and Agricultre Organisation (video)
    • Dr Abdulhakim Rajab Elwaer, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, Food and Agriculture Organisation
    • Dr Agnes Kalibata, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Food System’s Summit
    • Dr Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilstead, CGIAR scientist and World Food Prize winner 2021 (video)
    • Fatema Almulla, UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment
  • The official ceremony will close with the signing of an MoU
  • This will then lead into the main flagship event, from 1520-1715, at the same venue, with a variety of speakers, including UN and FAO representatives, celebrity chefs, and CEOs from local and international food companies, discussing how to improve production, nutrition, the environment and life in general
  • There will be a farmer’s market located at the Opportunity Pavilion
  • Many of our International Participants will also be celebrating World Food Day, including:
    • Kenya – talks and activities at the pavilion (located in Opportunity District from 1000-1200)
    • Baden-Wurttemberg – cooking demonstration from 1400-1445 at the pavilion (located in the Opportunity District)
    • Korea – ‘K Food’ activation at the pavilion’s restaurant from 1500-1600 (located in the Mobility District)
    • Australia – Stop the Waste cooking challenge from 1600-1830 at the pavilion (located in the Mobility District)

Hungary Fono Band – Music

  • A performance by Hungarian folk musicians
  • 1600-1800, Dubai Millennium Ampitheatre

Saudi Variety Show

  • The first in a series of monthly performances featuring an eclectic mix of comedy, music, spoken word, sketches, prizes and quizzes
  • 1930-2100, Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre

  • Chile: Our Space Story, seminar on Chile’s own space exploration, 1000, Terra Auditorium
  • World Majlis | Powers Out of this World: Using Space for the Benefit of All Humanity, The Majlis will explore the benefits that space exploration brings to humanity, 1600, Terra Auditorium

  • World Giftedness Center Biennial International Conference, top-level researchers come together to showcase giftedness best practices, 1600-1800, DEC, Hall 1A North

  • Dignified Storytelling, Stories of Great Ambition and Hope, key figures from space exploration share their stories, 1500-1730, Terra Auditorium
