Supermodel Gigi Hadid has reportedly been arrested for possessing marijuana while vacationing in the Cayman Islands. The 26-year-old star was accompanied by her friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy, during the incident. It occurred on July 10, according to Cayman Marl Road.
Upon arrival at the airport, officers scanned their luggage and subsequently conducted a more thorough search. During this inspection, authorities discovered marijuana and “utensils used for the consumption of ganja.”
Both Gigi Hadid and Leah McCarthy, aged 28 and 29 respectively, were arrested on suspicion of importing ganja and importing utensils used for its consumption. They were later transported to the Prisoner Detention Center, processed, and subsequently released on bail.
On July 12, the two women appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charges. They were fined $1,000 each but managed to avoid a recorded conviction.
Responding to the incident, Gigi Hadid’s representative informed E! News that the marijuana found in her possession had been legally purchased in New York City. There she holds a medical license for its use. The representative also clarified that the medical use of marijuana has been legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. Despite the incident, Gigi Hadid’s record remains clear, and she continued to enjoy her time on the island.
