Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson faced accusations of tardiness and unprofessional behavior on the sets of his films, notably clashing with co-star Ryan Reynolds during the filming of Red Notice due to habitual unpunctuality, as reported by The Wrap. Although TMZ suggested the issue was resolved between the actors, fresh allegations surfaced, suggesting Johnson’s tardiness significantly impacted his new film, Red One. According to insiders speaking to The Wrap, Johnson’s habitual lateness reportedly caused the film’s budget to increase by $50 million. Sources indicated that Johnson often arrived on set 7-8 hours late and was unwilling to work for more than 4-5 hours a day.

Despite these claims, both Amazon MGM and Netflix, production houses currently collaborating with Johnson, have vehemently denied the allegations, portraying him as a consummate professional. A spokesperson for Amazon MGM refuted the accusations, stating, “Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks have been incredible partners on Red One — a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season. Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.”

Red Notice

Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote and directed Red Notice, a 2021 American action comedy film starring Dwayne Johnson alongside Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Ritu Arya. It marked the third collaboration between Thurber and Johnson, following Central Intelligence (2016) and Skyscraper (2018). In the film, an FBI agent reluctantly teamed up with a renowned art thief in order to catch an even more notorious thief.

It began a limited theatrical release on November 5, 2021, before digitally streaming on the platform on November 12, 2021. Critics gave Red Notice mixed-to-negative reviews for its plot and screenwriting, although they praised the performances (particularly those of Johnson and Reynolds), action sequences, and humor. Netflix claimed the film became the most-watched film in its debut weekend, as well as the most-watched film within 28 days of release on the platform. It also became the 5th most-streamed movie title of 2021.
