The Coronation Medal

The Culture Secretary has unveiled the design of a medal to commemorate Their Majesties’ Coronation. The Armed Forces, frontline emergency service personnel, and those participating in the Coronation Medals. The medals made of nickel silver and coated in nickel, include images of The King and Queen Camilla.

The Medal is a gift from the country to honour the Coronation for the persons who will carry out the historic service.

Everyone actively contributing to and supporting the Coronation on May 6th is eligible. Including choristers, police officers, military people, and St John Ambulance staff, as well as those directly participating in the Coronation’s delivery.

It will also be offered to serving frontline members of the police, fire, emergency services, prison systems, and military forces. Who have served for five full calendar years. More than 400,000 Coronation Medals are planned to be distributed.

On the front is a double image of Their Majesties. While on the reverse is a rendition of the Royal Cypher, a laurel wreath, and the year of the Coronation.

The ribbon is constructed of nickel silver and nickel plated in red, blue, and white vertical stripes – the colours of the Union Flag.

Lucy Frazer, Culture Secretary, stated:

The Coronation Medal will serve as a reminder of the significant role that each individual performed in this historical occasion. From our Armed Forces who protect our country to the emergency services who care for us at home. As well as the volunteers who are giving up their time to make this event so special. I am grateful that we can recognise their contributions to this special day. As well as every day that they go above and beyond serving their country.

Martin Jennings drew the double picture of The King and Queen Consort for the front of the newly unveiled Coronation Medal. As well as the official effigy of The King for the new coinage released by the Royal Mint. Worcestershire Medal Service Ltd in Birmingham creates the medal.
