With heightened pressure on TikTok, ByteDance AI research head to quit
BEIJING (CHINA) – On Tuesday, Beijing-based ByteDance said, the Ma Wei-Ying, head of its artificial intelligence lab will quit from the company. Short-video app TikTok has been under US scrutiny, with regard to security and privacy issues, which has lead to Ma Wei-Ying’s resignation.
The departure of Ma Wei-Ying from ByteDance comes as TikTok faces regulatory challenges from all corners of the world.
A ByteDance spokeswoman said, “We are extremely grateful to Wei-Ying for his important contribution to ByteDance.”
It is not divulged yet as to who would take his place. Ma did not immediately respond to comment on the same.
According to news reports, ByteDance is expanding its engineering and research team in Mountain View, California, and had recruited more than 150 engineers in these places.
