MOSCOW (RUSSIA) – US whistleblower Edward Snowden has been given permanent residency rights by Russia, said the TASS news agency quoting Snowden’s lawyer Anatoly Kucherena as saying on Thursday.
Snowden fled the US for Russia where he was given asylum after he made public secret files in 2013, revealing vast domestic and international surveillance operations carried out by the US National Security Agency.
Kucherena, told TASS his client was not yet considering applying for a Russian passport.
US President Donald Trump said in August he was considering a pardon for Snowden.
