LONDON – With the recent series of attack incidents, the British government said that British venue owners must come up with plans to prevent militant attacks and find a way to deal better with them in case they do happen.
The interior ministry states its intention to introduce a law for venue, public space operators and owners to consider an attack risk and be prepared for events of the sort.
Steps may include physical security, training, incidence response plans and staff exercises on how to react in the case of an attack.
Security minister James Brokenshire stated that venues of the sort must have effective proportionate protective security and preparedness measures for the safety of its visitors.
He even cited the example of the 2017 Ariana Grande concert bomb which killed 22 people in Manchester along with the recent London knife attacks as the country’s security threats.
The law which has been proposed shall be placed into public consultation in late 2020 and business and public sector submissions shall be invited for the method of enforcement of the new duty.
Brokenshire states that it is imperative that this new law must be proportionate. The public consultation shall ensure a law to protect the public without placing undue pressure on these businesses.
