LONDON- An emergency legislation preventing convicted terrorists from automatically being released from prison midway through their sentence shall be introduced by Britain, according to Justice Minister Robert Buckland.
On Sunday, an Islamist attacker who was released from his terrorism sentence a few days ago, half-way through his term, stabbed two people in South London.
Plans were already in place on part of the government to introduce tougher sentences for those convicted on terrorism offences shortly after November’s London Bridge attack which killed two and injured several others, by a former felon.
Buckland told Parliament that the appalling incident made a strong case to take immediate action.
Emergency legislation shall be introduced to put an end to the early release of terrorist offenders on completion of half their sentence without checking or review.
