UK to receive millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses from India’s Wockhardt
BENGALURU (INDIA) – Indian drugmaker Wockhardt Ltd announced on Monday that it would supply millions of doses of coronavirus vaccines to the UK and they include the shot being developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.
As part of a deal with the British government, the firm has reserved fill-and-finish capacity – the final step of filling vaccines into vials or syringes and packaging them.
When news of this surfaced, Wockhardt shares climbed 10% in the gloomy Mumbai market.
The UK government has also reserved one fill-and-finish production line at a Wockhardt subsidiary in Wrexham, Wales.
Around the world, more than 150 vaccines are being developed and tested and 25 are already in human trials, according to the World Health Organization.
