UK Prince Charles names Katy Perry as Asian charity ambassador

LONDON- On Tuesday, British Prince Charles announced that U.S. pop singer Katy Perry is the ambassador of a British Asian trust fighting against child-trafficking.

35-year-old Katy Perry is already a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and met Prince Charles at the trust’s meeting in Mumbai, India last November.

Perry was impressed by the planning including on-ground initiatives and fundraising driven towards cutting child trafficking in half. Naming Perry as the ambassador of the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund came as an honour and shall shine a light on the work that the trust does in South Asia to find solutions to child-trafficking.

The announcement shall officially be made at the Trust’s royal dinner at Banqueting House and will focus on plans to combat child labour and carry out anti-trafficking measures. Several British ministers and philanthropists shall also be in attendance.

The charity was founded in 2007 by Prince Charles and British Asian business leaders against poverty, inequality and injustice in the region.

In India, over 5.8 million children are forced into labour, many working 15 hours a day.
