LONDON (UK) – In what is seen as a boost for the aviation and travel industries, the quarantine rules for those travelling to the UK from 70 countries, including France and Italy, have been eased from Friday.
But those travelling from high risk countries have to undergo self-quarantine for two weeks. Many popular tourist destinations are now exempt which means millions of citizens will be able to go on summer holidays without having to remain in home quarantine when they return.
John Holland-Kaye who heads Heathrow, Britain’s biggest airport, hailed the move, adding that more measures were essential to facilitate travel from other low-risk countries.
“There are some important long-haul markets that aren’t included, places like Canada and Singapore, which are low-risk, and we’d like to see those being included in the next review,” he told Sky News.
“We also need to think about how are we going to connect some of our really important trading partners such as the United States, which are high risk as a nation but some parts of the country are low risk.”
