LONDON – The British Parliamentary Defence Committee will address the concerns raise regarding security on using China’s Huawei Technologies for the UK’s 5G mobile network and launch an investigation into the matter, according to a group of lawmakers.
In January, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had announced that the country would be granting Huawei a limited role in the British 5G network. This decision was met with frustration from the United States who persisted on the exclusion of Huawei from next-generation communications systems in the West.
5G security will now undergo an inquiry by a parliamentary defence sub-committee.
The inquiry was launched by lawmaker Tobias Ellwood and he said that once introduced, 5G shall become an “unextractable” part of the country’s infrastructure.
“It is paramount that, as we negotiate this new technology, we ask the uncomfortable questions about the possibility of abuse.”
