On Wednesday, Twitter stated that it was in the process of testing a type of tweet which disappears after a 24-hour period in Brazil. This is similar to the Snapchat and Instagram stories feature.
The disappearing tweets are called ‘fleets’ and these vanishing messages can be seen by tapping the profile picture of the user. Twitter’s product lead Kayvon Beykpour said that the ‘fleets’ will not appear on the user’s timeline and can get retweets, likes and public replies.
“We’re hoping that Fleets can help people share the fleeting thoughts that they would have been unlikely to Tweet”

This move from Twitter comes nearly a year after competitor Facebook announced their shift to making products which are focused on privacy and ephemerality.
Twitter is working on new features to make the social media platform more user-friendly but its growth has been slow as compared to its rivals leaving investors upset that they failed to innovate and expand beyond the core platform.
Twitter’s shares fell last year after disclosing that the platform saw glitches which hindered its ability for ads targetting and data sharing with partners.
Elliott Management is now pushing for changes at the company, one of these moves being removing CEO Jack Dorsey.
