Tehran clinic explosion leaves 19 dead

TEHERAN (IRAN) – As many as 19 people were killed and six injured in an explosion in a clinic north of Teheran on Tuesday, said the IRIB, the official news agency of Iran.

In a televised address, Tehran Deputy Governor Hamid Reza Goudarzi said the blast was caused by a gas leak.

Footage of a video on social media showed multiple blasts at the building and fire fighters scaling the roof using a ladder.

Jalal Maleki, the spokesman of the Tehran Fire Department, said on state TVA that the flames have been extinguished.

At the time of the blast, there were 25 staff in the clinic, which carries out medical imaging and light surgeries.

Separately, a blast occurred near a military site on the outskirts of Teheran last week. The defence ministry said the explosion was caused by a gas leak. There were no casualties or injuries.
