On local coronavirus alert, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the United Kingdom had risen to 23 on Saturday. Johnson will chair a meeting of the government’s emergency response committee on Monday, to deal and plan for the coronavirus if it gets worse.
Chevron announced that one of their employees who had reported a flu-like illness in their London Canary Wharf office has tested negative for coronavirus. When the employee first began exhibiting symptoms, it prompted Chevron to send staff home. 300 or so employees were told to work from home on a temporary basis.
In other news, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds announced that they are expecting their first child together and are engaged to be married.
Malaysia’s Muhyiddin Yassin was sworn in as prime minister on Sunday after the king picked him to replace 94-year-old Mahathir Mohamad.
The swearing-in capped a week of turmoil that began with Mahathir’s resignation in an apparent bid to consolidate power, but ended with him sidelined and complaining of betrayal after decades dominating Malaysian politics.
