TOKYO (Asia) – The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe lifted a state of emergency in most parts of the country on Thursday. Tokyo and Osaka will, however, remain under restrictions until there is sufficient containment of the coronavirus.
The lifting of the state of emergency was announced by Abe in 39 of Japan’s 47 prefectures. Japan strives to balance economic damage from prolonged shutdowns and the need to nip coronavirus in the bud.
