MADRID – On Friday, Spain’s Health Ministry confirmed the country’s first coronavirus case after a man was diagnosed in La Gomera in the Canaries.
The patient is one of five people under observation in La Gomera on coming into contact with a German man diagnosed with coronavirus.
Spain’s National Centre for Microbiology’s diagnosis came not long after a plane with 27 EU nationals landed in Madrid from Wuhan.
None of the Spaniards who were repatriated appeared symptomatic but shall be quarantined in a Madrid military hospital for a period of 14 days.
On the flight were also four Danish and one Norwegian citizen to be flown back to their home countries.
Spain’s health minister Salvador Illa shall soon chair a ministerial meeting to discuss the country’s response to the outbreak of the virus.
