TOKYO (Technology) – SoftBank Group founder, CEO Masayoshi Son began Twitter polls for his followers on whether a state of emergency should be declared.
This comes not long after the number of people in Tokyo infected with the coronavirus is on a steep rise.
Son drew a comparison with New York state with 89 coronavirus cases on the day it declared a state of emergency but three weeks later had to cope with over 83,000 cases. Since then, the numbers of infected have topped 90,000.
“Tokyo currently has 773 people infected. What does everyone think about that?” was the poll that Son asked his 2.5 million-plus followers.
Many respondees expressed concern that the government has been slow to enforce restrictions on daily life.
Son’s Twitter poll runs for 24 hours. Within 30 minutes of launching the poll, it had more than 40,000 votes with 80% in favour of a declaration of a state of emergency.
