Singer-songwriter Shawnee Kish performs her chart-toppers at Expo 2020 Dubai
DUBAI – Soulful singer-songwriter Shawnee Kish performed her hits, including Burnin Love, Diagnosed Dissociative and Warrior Heart at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Sun Stage this afternoon (Friday).
Named the winner of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s 2020 Searchlight talent competition, the powerhouse two-spirit indigenous Mohawk artist is also a youth mentor.
Dedicating Warrior Heart to indigenous young people, Kish said: “Indigenous youth on remote reserved lands in Canada are struggling with things, like depression. I am indigenous and I remember that struggle when I was young.”
“I believe music is medicine. I believe in the power of music, art and healing, which I can give and has been given to me. So, I wrote this song called Warrior Heart for those young kids.”
One of the Canadian and indigenous artists performing at Expo 2020 in a co-presentation with National Arts Centre and Global Affairs Canada, Shawnee Kish takes to the stage again from 1815 GST on Saturday, 27 November, at Expo 2020’s Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre.
