British researchers are testing out whether dogs can sniff out people with COVID-19 infections in order to develop a non-invasive and quick method to detect the disease.
500,000 pounds have been granted by the British government towards the research to be conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine along with Durham University and a British charity, Medical Detection Dogs.
A keenly-watched COVID-19 vaccine will be priced to allow as wide as possible access to it, if it proves successful, and will be made at huge scale to keep costs down and supply up, said the Oxford University professor co-leading its development. Adrian Hill, director of Oxford’s Jenner Institute, which has teamed up with the drugmaker AstraZeneca to develop the vaccine, said ensuring wide distribution and low cost have been central to the project from the start.
Cars will be banished from miles of streets in central London to encourage more walking and cycling and help public transport cope with social distancing restrictions, the city’s mayor said on Friday. Sadiq Khan said the plan, which covers major cross-town routes, would transform parts of central London into one of the largest car-free zones in any capital city.
Iran has sentenced French-Iranian academic Fariba Adelkhah to six years in prison on national security charges, her lawyer said on Saturday.
“The court has sentenced her to six years,” said Saeid Dehghan.
“The branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court has sentenced her to five years jail for gathering and conspiring against Iran’s national security. She was also sentenced to one year jail term for propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”
Dehghan said he would appeal against the sentence.
Iran dropped spying charges against Adelkhah but she remained in jail on other security-related charges, Dehghan said in March.
